ISIL attackers strike wedding party near Karbala

Five "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements attacked a wedding party in Ain al-Tamer near Karbala, killing 18 people, the Central Euphrates Operations Command said Monday (August 29th).

"They were carrying Kalashnikovs, hand grenades. One of them blew himself up and the others were killed by the security forces," said the head of Central Euphrates Operations Command, Qais Khalaf.

A local council member and a provincial health directorate source confirmed the death toll in the attack, which took place late Sunday, and said at least 26 others were wounded, AFP reported.

Five members of one family were among the dead, according to a Karbala province health official.

ISIL claimed responsibility for the attack via its news agency, Amaq.
