Iraqi forces arrested an "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) element who escaped a death sentence and committed 12 assassinations during the time he was at large, Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council said Tuesday (October 11th).
"A fugitive ISIL element who had been sentenced to death in other cases has been arrested," the council said in a statement, citing al-Rusafa Investigation Court.
"The defendant admitted to committing 12 assassinations during his escape using his dead brother's ID," the council said.
A large stockpile of ammunition, including three explosive vests, was also seized in the operation, which took place in al-Mada'en district.
